Do you also love the LEGO Powered Up system and their cool programmable interfaces? But what about the older LEGO 9V System (train) motors/lights you have still laying around? What if we could make them smart and connect them to the Powered Up system? Well, we did just that!

We have developed a smart Powered Up to 9V System Adapter which is 100% compatible with all the LEGO 9V System (train) motors/lights and all the Powered Up hubs like LEGO Boost, LEGO WeDo, LEGO Spike and LEGO Control+.

No electronics knowledge is needed and installation is as easy as connecting the power connector to the compatible LEGO power system. Connect a LEGO 9V System (train) motor/light to the adapter and you are ready to go. A big advantage is the ability to connect multiple devices to a single Powered Up port. You can control direction, power and speed by using the Powered Up remote control or the programmable interface on a mobile device.

Depending on the type your choose, the programmable interfaces on mobile devices and Powered Up remote control will detect the adapter as a train motor or normal motor. You can always program the motor/light behaviour without any limitation via the official LEGO Powered Up app (or third party applications).

Compatibility & Use Cases

We have 2 types available. The type difference only matters if you are using the LEGO Powered Up remote control (in combination with the LEGO PU City hub 88009) or predefined touch interfaces in the official LEGO Powered Up app. “Pulse Control” acts like a normal DC motor (fully on/fully off) and “Speed Control” acts like a train motor (control the motor speed in various steps). You can always program the LEGO 9V System motor/light without any limitation! No matter what LEGO hub or motor/light you use. If you plan on using it in custom LEGO models/custom software, you can create any behaviour you like and we advice getting the Speed Control version.
Note that the 9V System connector only features electronic connection on the bottom side.

To test if the Powered Up to 9V System Adapter is working properly you can test it with our sample programs. You can find these and more information in the software tab above. Simply connect the cable to a LEGO PU Hub – port A and connect a LEGO motor/light to the other end. When pressing the green play button the motor should rotate. Click to enlarge.
